Columbia's Radamel Falcao admits discussing draw with Peru's Renato Tapia

James Rodriguez celebrates after giving Colombia the lead in the second half in Lima

However, Peru midfielder Renato Tapia has revealed Falcao urged them to take their foot off the gas in the final few minutes of the encounter after informing the players that the 1-1 result would suit both team's World Cup aspirations.

Falcao, who plays his club football for French Ligue 1 side Monaco, was seen in discussion with Peruvian players with his hand covering his mouth towards the end of the 1-1 draw in Lima.

South American media has branded the incident the "Lima Pact" but there is little evidence Falcao, 31, did anything dishonest.

Peru's dream of reaching a first World Cup since 1982 is still flickering after a one all draw with Colombia Tuesday evening.

"We knew what was happening in the other matches, we were playing with (the knowledge of) the other results and in that moment (I tried) to transmit that (to Peru)", Falcao said, per the Telegraph.

"In the last few minutes, we were tougher for the experience against Paraguay and when the goal came it was not easy", he said. "We suffered a lot but in the end we did it".

Peru ended up with a goal difference of +1 and Chile -1 as Ricardo Gareca's team march on. "They knew what the situation was in the other games", Panamericana TV.

He told Colombian outlet Win Sports: "I believe that Colombia today can play against anyone".

The clashes in November will be the second time that Peru competes in a World Cup Play-Off, previously missing out on attending Mexico '86. "What pact? That's speculation", he told RPP radio station.
