Man wanted for Charlottesville assault turns himself in

DeAndre Shakur Harris

Footage of the attack spread quickly on social media, showing at least five white men beating and kicking Mr Harris to the ground in an indoor auto park next to the police station during the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville.

Harris, a former special education instructional assistant who sustained a spinal injury and head wound that required 10 stitches, was released on a bond after turning himself in to Charlottesville police.

A man wanted in connection to an assault in Charlottesville on August 12 has turned himself in to police.

Video of the rally shows DeAndre Harris, 20, being beaten by several men outside a parking garage at the rally.

Twenty-year-old DeAndre Shakur Harris swung himself to the Charlottesville Police Department around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, October 12. In addition to Harris, three men have been charged in the attack.

Police said Harris was taken before the justice and discharged on an unsecured bond.

The magistrate's office called the police department to confirm the facts, and they then issued the warrant.

A Charlottesville Police Department detective did respond, verified the facts and a warrant for Unlawful Wounding (Va Code 18.2-51) was issued.
