Pro teams are avoiding Trump hotels

Bucks forward Steve Novak was shocked to get a $20.67 bill for one coffee at Trump Soho

The Washington Post reported Thursday that no team - out of 105 franchises responding to the survey across the four major sports leagues - confirmed that it stays at a Trump hotel on the road. However, ESPN's Kevin Arnovitz surveyed National Basketball Association players and team employees a year ago and the Trump Soho in NY was among the most popular.

"Since Donald Trump announced his candidacy in June 2015, foot traffic to Trump-branded hotels, casinos and golf courses in the USA has been down", the firm said. Not a single team would confirm it was planning to stay at any Trump property hotels (18 teams did not respond). But some coaches and players have made it clear that Trump's politics definitely factors into their decision to stay elsewhere.

Though 12 teams used to stay at the Manhattan hotel, according to the report, 11 of them made different arrangements for the upcoming season, including the Raptors.

Seth Meyers Shoots Middle Finger To Trump Supporters
Seth Meyers also got in on the action , sharing his own quasi-rap: "Now, I'm not much of a rapper, but here it goes". That thought also seemed to have occurred to the writers over at Late Show .

Trump has become embroiled in several feuds with professional athletes in recent weeks, particularly with NFL players who have knelt during the national anthem to protest racial inequality.

The Post report said that the Raptors were one of five teams who dropped the Trump SoHo from their travel plans this past summer.

Trump took to Twitter to personally call out Stephen Curry, while uninviting the Golden State Warriors to the White House, even though much of the team has already confirmed they weren't going anyway. The boycott he's promoting doesn't seem to be picking up any steam - the same can not be said for how his presidency is affecting his businesses.

Jabari Parker, one of the young stars on the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, a team that stopped staying at Trump hotels after 2015-16, said the switch was definitely due to politics. The trend started before Trump denounced football players who refuse to stand for the National Anthem.

"I don't care what haters think - I'm proud to not stay in Trump hotels", the Bucks forward told the Sporting News in November. "He ran his campaign on hate".
