Russian antivirus was used to obtain classified information

On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported, quoting the current and former United States officials, that Russia's authorities had allegedly updated Kaspersky Lab's anti-virus software, turning into a spy tool, and used it for searching secret documents of the USA federal departments on computers throughout the world.

"There are no plans to warn against the use of Kaspersky products since the BSI has no evidence for misconduct by the company or weaknesses in its software", BSI said in a statement on Wednesday. This software is used by 400 million people around the globe, including USA government agencies, The New York Times reported that over two years ago Israeli officials had hacked into Kaspersky's network and then notified US counterparts of the Russian intrusion.

"The company tracks more than 100 advanced persistent threat actors and operations, and for 20 years, Kaspersky Lab has been focused on protecting people and organizations from these cyber threats - its headquarters' location doesn't change that mission", the company explained.
