Two girls mowed down in Baramati

A Shiv Sena leader's auto allegedly ran over three girls on their way to school in Maharashtra's Baramati this morning. Two of them, aged 12 and 13, died on the spot after being hit by the auto. The news channel also said that while it was unclear whether Mane was driving the auto himself, he had fled from the spot after the accident and was now absconding.

Following the accident, angry locals set ablaze the Baramati chief's auto and blocked the road to press for action against the Sena leader.

The SUV is registered in the name of a relative of Shiv Sena leader Pappu Mane, who often uses it, but was not inside the vehicle at the time of the mishap that occurred on the Baramati-Morgaon road. Police have identified the deceased girls as Sameeksha, 12, and Divya, 13.

Angry locals set the SUV ablaze after, Pappu Mane and his accomplices fled from the spot. However, police have refused to divulge whether Mane himself was driving the auto or travelling in it, saying that the probe was on.

The arrested trio are identified as Akash Jagtap, Hrishikesh Chavadhar, and Prithviraj Chavan, all residents of Baramati. Mane is said to be absconding after the incident was reported.

They managed to nab the driver of the vehicle who was later handed over to police.
