Tesla voluntarily recalls 11000 Model X for seat problems-again

Tesla has announced a recall of some Model X vehicles to fix a potential safety issue with rear seats which might shift in a crash

Bad news for Tesla Model X owners: you might have to spend a little time without your vehicle.

Tesla is in the process of recalling 11,000 Model X SUVs that have been manufactured between October 28, 2016 - August 16, 2017, worldwide because the company says the SUV's rear seats might not lock into place - thus posing a potential safety issue. Vehicles that fell under that recall were only built through October.

There has been no real-life example of the defect but Tesla says it was discovered during testing, adding that it had voluntarily decided on the recall "out of an abundance of caution".

Tesla began informing customers about the recall Thursday.

Tesla says some cables in the seat may have been improperly tightened, which prevents the left seat from locking in an upright position. Until then, Tesla warns against have two adults sitting in the left and center second-row seats. Tesla Model X owners can take their vehicle to a dealer for repairs or reach out to Tesla's mobile fix units. There haven't been any reports of seat issues in the field.

"Although Tesla has not received reports of any issues or accidents relating to this condition, we will be conducting a voluntary recall to inspect the affected vehicles and confirm whether any adjustment is needed", the statement said.

According to the Tesla, the company had determined that a small number of cables in the second row fold-flat seats in "some" 2016 and 2017 SUVs may need readjustments.

Thank you for being a Tesla customer and we apologize for this inconvenience.
