Sessions admits there's not enough evidence to probe Hillary Clinton

With Attorney General Jeff Sessions hinting he might appoint a second special counsel to look into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server for State Department business and into issues involving the Clinton Foundation, the Democratic presidential nominee's associates are trying to keep the focus on President Donald Trump.

Asked by ABC's Jonathan Karl if he was considering firing Sessions over such frustrations, Trump replied, "I don't know".

Jordan listed off a number of reasons why he believed a special counsel should be appointed, pointing to issues stemming from the Fusion GPS dossier on President Donald Trump's ties to Russia, which has been partially substantiated and partially discredited; former FBI Director James Comey's handling of the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server as secretary of state; and the 2010 Uranium One deal, which involved a Russian energy business acquiring a controlling stake in the Canadian company by that name which, at that time, controlled 20% of U.S. uranium extraction ability, The New York Times reported.

Trump campaigned on a promise to "get a special prosecutor" to investigate Clinton. Fox News host Sean Hannity, who is also an informal adviser to the president, has called for a special counsel to probe the uranium deal and has said that because Mueller was the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the time Uranium One was purchased, Mueller should be removed from his role probing the Trump White House. "My motivation is a love for that department and a love for the concept of blind justice that doesn't care whether it's an even-numbered year or an odd-numbered year", he said.

"We will use the proper standards, and that's the only thing I can tell you Mr. Jordan", Sessions said.

Sessions insisted in his testimony that he is not leaning one way or the other on the appointment of a new special counsel and that he is awaiting a detailed presentation from senior officials at the Justice Department.

What's it going to take to actually get a special counsel?

"Why in 2016 did FBI Director Comey begin drafting an exoneration letter for Secretary Clinton, whom he called "grossly negligent" in an early draft of the letter, before completing the investigation?"

This came days after Sessions was considering to appoint a special counsel to examine charges levelled against Clinton Foundation, reported the Independent.

Mr Sessions said he does not remember speaking to Carter Page during the 2016 presidential campaign about a trip that the former foreign policy campaign adviser took to Russian Federation.

The first one was the Waco [siege] - Sen. It's been reported that in addition to the Clinton Campaign and the Democratic National Committee paying FusionGPS for the dossier, the Federal Bureau of Investigation also "reimbursed" Christopher Steele, author of the dossier.
