Kate Winslet believes Woody Allen understands women

Kate Winslet in Woody Allen’s “Wonder Wheel.”

When she won an Oscar for the Weinstein-produced The Reader in 2009, she deliberately refused to thank him when accepting her award.

It's not exactly clear whether "Wonder Wheel" is an ambitious homage to O'Neill or a blatant borrowing of his work.

Woody Allen's latest film is told from the point of view of a male character, played by Justin Timberlake, who is romantically involved simultaneously with both a woman (Kate Winslet) and her stepdaughter (Juno Temple). Some have suggested that Mickey's rejection of the elder Ginny once Carolina comes into the picture reflects Allen's rejection of Mia Farrow in favour of his step-daughter Soon-yi Previn, but I think that's a reach. Having thought it all through, you put it to one side and just work with the person.

Taking place in 1950s Coney Island, "Wonder Wheel" is the story of Ginny (Winslet), a clam-house waitress unhappily married to the boorish Humpty (Jim Belushi), and if you're hoping that Timberlake's character is named Dumpty, you're already demonstrating more wit than this film does.

Now, in the midst of the Weinstein allegations, Farrow is once again sticking to her story and shaming Hollywood for overlooking Allen, but condemning Harvey Weinstein.

"I have long maintained that when I was seven years old, Woody Allen led me into an attic, away from the babysitters who had been instructed never to leave me alone with him".

"I didn't know Woody and I don't know anything about that family", she told the Times. One could say it's trashy fun, akin to a soap opera but with a top-notch writer and director, who may not be in his prime anymore, but here has made his best film since Blue Jasmine. Which I guess is kinda interesting - it implies that the film will be a post-modern pastiche of itself, and sets up the idea that Allen is out to lampoon half-baked melodrama. That title belongs to Winslet, whose shrill, over-the-top hysteria belongs more on stage, where you need to project, than on film. Now, Carolina's on the run from her abusive husband and his goombah gang, who are all rightfully anxious that she knows too much about their business. "My tragic flaw is I'm too romantic a character", he says in a delivery as wooden as the boardwalk, but that's not Timberlake's fault.

It's worth pointing out that despite active criminal investigations in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Park City, Utah, Weinstein has never been convicted of anything either.

Mariners acquire Dee Gordon from the Marlins
So the Marlins are getting some nice salary relief with the trade, while the Mariners are taking on the substantial commitment. Gordon was suspended 80 games in 2016 for violating MLB's performance-enhancing drug policy.

Farrow went on to call out Lively, noting that when asked about Weinstein, Lively said, "It's important that women are furious right now.it's important that we focus on humanity in general and say, 'This is unacceptable". It's important that there is an uprising.

The couple's son (born from a previous husband) also happens to be a cartoonishly depicted pyromaniac, always lighting more and more unsafe fires as the movie progresses seemingly as a way of lashing out for how little he matters. "I could [only] know my experience".

Too bad the screenplay's all stuff plucked from Woody's recycling bin, including not one but two instances of the old Allen standby in which the manly stud gives flighty women books to read. She figures her husband's cronies won't look for her at Humpty's because they know she hasn't talked to her father in five years. "I think I'm living in that space of fear of being anxious about how I talk about it and what I say". Let's break this down: Here's a Woody Allen movie about a "moody" and "crazy" washed-up redheaded actress furious that her lover has jilted her for her kinda/sorta daughter.

She continued: "It isn't just power that allows men accused of sexual abuse to keep their careers and their secrets. It is also our collective choice to see simple situations as complicated and obvious conclusions as a matter of 'who can say?'" Farrow concluded. The system worked for Harvey Weinstein for decades.

Argentina's ex-president Cristina Fernandez charged with treason
For that to happen, two-thirds of the legislators must decide to remove Kirchner's immunity for an arrest. Fernandez, who was sworn in as a national senator last week, already faces several charges of graft.

From his start in stand-up through his many on-screen appearances as a comic alter ego, Allen has always flirted with autobiography in his work, teasing an audience with the notion that at least some of this might be true.
