Ryan Reynolds To Voice Pikachu In Live-Action Pokémon Movie 'Detective Pikachu'

The story is about a teenager who teams up with Pikachu in order to find his kidnapped father. After being both Green Lantern and Deadpool, this makes sense.

He joins actor Justice Smith for the film, who will be seen next in the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

CBS All Access Confirms Jordan Peele-Produced 'Twilight Zone' Revival
It has already been remade twice, broadcast from 1985 to 1989 on CBS and again between 2002 and 2003 on the cable channel UPN. CBS calls its landmark show "the godfather of sci-fi", and it plans to reimagine the series for a modern audience.

The report says that the role "is said to be motion capture in nature", since it's a live-action role where Pikachu is digitally inserted. There are even some weird mashups that have been floating around for years that are especially prescient.

Detective Pikachu's plot will be based on a kidnapping, with Pikachu (Reynolds) assigned to hunt the offender down. He'll be voicing the yellow-electric-mouse Pokemon, fashioning a Sherlock Holmes-y sensibility to go along with the Detective Pikachu title. He'll bring his talents to this film that's helmed by director Rob Letterman, who's no stranger to family animated comedies, with his resume that includes Monsters vs. Aliens and Shark Tale. Filming is set to begin in London in January.
