Sensex Jumps 242 Points to 33191, Nifty at 10243

Sensex ends lower ahead of RBI's monetary policy decision

Anand James, chief market strategist, Geojit Financial Services, the Reserve Bank of India's neutral stance in the December 6 monetary policy review despite firm inflation expectations, and recent falls rendering stocks attractive, whetted the appetite of buyers. The 30-share index declined by 205.26 points, or 0.63 percent, to 32,597.18 after hitting a low of 32,565.16 soon after the central bank announced its policy decision.

Trading mood was also impacted as Fitch Ratings yesterday cut the country's GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal to 6.7% from the earlier projected 6.9 per cent.

However, value-buying in several heavyweights towards the fag-end trimmed the losses, with the index finishing at 32,802.44, down 67.28 points or 0.20%. Sensex zoomed 146 points or 0.45% to 33,096.10 while the wider Nifty was up by over 39 points or 0.38% to 10,205.70.
