The Smithereens lead singer Pat DiNizio dies

The Smithereens frontman Pat DiNizio has died, aged 62

The New Jersey rock band, who formed in 1980, confirmed DiNizio's passing in a short statement on their Facebook page in which they expressed their "great sadness" at having to break news of his death to their fans.

While no cause of death has been revealed, DiNizio shared a post on Facebook on the weekend stating he was at home undergoing physical therapy following recent falls that damaged his neck and back.
