TIME reveals its 2017 Person of the Year: The Silence Breakers

The women behind the #MeToo movement have been named Time Person of the Year

The Plaza Hotel Plaintiffs (a group of seven women who filed a sexual-harassment suit against the hotel) were also named by the magazine as "silence breakers".

"This is the fastest moving social change we've seen in decades, and it began by individual acts of courage by women, and some men, too, who came forward", Time's editor in chief Ed Helms said.

Time revealed the results of their reader's poll on Monday as well, which was won by Crown Prince bin Salman in overwhelming fashion, as he commanded 24 per cent of the vote versus the six per cent that runner-up the #MeToo movement received in the poll.

California wildfires temporarily shut down production of HBO show
Los Angeles County is now facing two major fires as of Tuesday: the 11,000-acre Creek Fire and the 1,000-acre Rye Fire. According to the employee, S.W.A.T. was the only show scheduled to shoot at the 16-office Valencia facility today.

"The Silence Breakers" designates a broad range of people, mostly women, from this year's first public accusers of disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein to those who shared their stories of abuse using the hashtag #MeToo and its foreign language equivalents.

Despite slamming the designation, Trump was named Person of the Year in 2016 shortly after he was elected. An online version of the story also features Rose McGowan and her "Charmed" co-star Alyssa Milano, who popularized the #MeToo movement started by activist Tarana Burke.

Among the finalists are one of the world's most notorious leaders, the women behind the year's biggest cultural reckoning and - whether he wants it or not - President Trump. Time says that's false.

But being named person of the year is not an endorsement.

The magazine nominated North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, whom Trump has nicknamed "Little Rocket Man" and who has overseen ballistic missile tests that have raised fears of a nuclear confrontation. The decision indicates the magazine's desire to honor and recognize the broader movement of women speaking out about sexual misconduct.

President Trump was next, a little over an hour after he managed to make headlines once again by officially endorsing Alabama Senate hopeful Roy Moore despite accusations that he sexually molested a girl when she was 14 and assaulted another female was she was 16 in a restaurant parking lot.

The title, which was awarded on Wednesday, goes to the individual or group that TIME deems to have been the most influential in 2017.
