Benitez prepared to shelve any bid for top Toon stars

Carlos Carvalhal Manager of Swansea City

It's been a frustrating time for manager Rafa Benitez, with the transfer window certainly something that's caused him a fair headache given Mike Ashley has been hard to get funds out of, and it seems that there will be some respite at least for now, with the Magpies favourites to beat Swansea this weekend.

Listening at the back was Keith Bishop, a PR advisor who is close to Ashley.

I have heard people talking about our players, but we do not have any offers.

"We are talking with agents but can not push too much".

"Whatever happens, we will still be missing something in certain positions and that is why we are trying to bring players in".

And when asked if Ashley had told him what his budget would be, Benitez said: 'No, we are still working'.

"If someone would come in and could buy, then we would have extra money to go into the market but we don't want to sell anyone who has value for our team".

There's a stand-off, of sorts, and Benitez's patience is wearing thin.

Matt Rhule Pulls Himself out of Consideration for Colts HC
The Indianapolis Colts aren't leaving any stone unturned in an attempt to replace the recently fired Chuck Pagano at head coach. He turned a 2-10 record in his first season as head coach at Temple in 2013 into back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2015 and 2016.

A win at home to bottom side Swansea today could lift them into the top half of the table but Benitez knows appearances can be deceptive.

As things stand, Ashley remains the sole source of transfer capital, but while the Sports Direct boss appears determined to keep his cheque book in his pocket, Benitez denies that the ongoing uncertainty regarding a possible takeover is having an adverse effect on the day-to-day running of the club. Surely Ashley isn't willing to risk another relegation? He's gambled before and he will gamble again.

The Spaniard didn't take any chances yesterday.

Ashley, however, would rather Benitez sold before he bought.

Newcastle failed to sign the likes of Tammy Abraham and Andre Gray in the summer transfer window, but at least the pair did move on to fellow Premier League clubs.

Kenedy, linked with Locomotiv Moscow, is also wanted by a number of other clubs.
