Dutch Reporters Blast Lying US Ambassador

Pete Hoekstra new U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands gives a statement during a press conference at his residence in The Hague Netherlands Wednesday Jan. 10 2018

Asked last month about his "no-go zones" remark, Hoekstra denied having ever made it, calling it "fake news".

Hoekstra is known for being a particularly conservative Republican politician who is against gay marriage, opposed to legalized abortion in all circumstances, and supports U.S. President Donald Trump's attempts to ban entry into the U.S. from citizens of several countries with large Muslim populations.

Under Secretary of State Steve Goldstein told a briefing on Thursday the State Department "does not agree" with Hoekstra's 2015 remarks about Muslim migrants in the Netherlands.

On Wednesday, Hoekstra dug himself into an even deeper hole at a Dutch press conference marking the beginning of his ambassadorship, when reporters asked again for him to clarify: "Are politicians being burned in the Netherlands?"

Circuit City to relaunch online next month, with stores on the horizon
The trend known as the "retail apocalypse" has worsened in recent years, as retail bankruptcies reached a six-year high in 2017. Its website will relaunch February 15, the company's CEO, Ronny Shmoel, said Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show.

During his exchange with the reporter in December, Hoekstra-who served as a GOP Congressman for MI from 1993 until 2011-called claims that he'd said there were "no-go zones" in the Netherlands "fake news", before backtracking on his remark soon after.

"The ambassador made mistakes in 2015, made comments that should not have been made".

In late December, Hoekstra apologized for telling a Dutch journalist that he was peddling "fake news" when Hoekstra was the one caught telling untruths. "And yes, there are no-go zones in the Netherlands", said Hoekstra while discussing the country's minority Muslim population. We have made clear to the ambassador that he must move to get this behind him.

Hoekstra has been in hot water in the Netherlands for the remarks since he was first confronted by a Dutch journalist, Wouter Zwart, in December. "I share your view by the way". Hoekstra refused to answer the question, but the brutal interrogation wasn't over.

During a debate in 2015 Hoekstra talked about the "Islamist movement" causing havoc across Europe. "Please accept my apology". Hoekstra denied making them-despite a video of the conference that showed otherwise.

Hoekstra served as a Congressman from 1993 to 2011.

According to a report from The Washington Post, reporters repeatedly asked Hoekstra to offer proof of his claim that politicians and cars have been burned and that there are "no-go zones" in the Netherlands. "He recognizes that", Goldstein said.

Hoekstra said he hoped to begin in-depth briefings with Dutch officials on the United States perspectives on issues both countries face, including counter-terrorism and cyber threats.
