Indian Man Loses US Citizenship, Becomes First Case of Denaturalization Under Trump

Justice Department Revokes Naturalized Citizenship, Citing Fingerprint Issue

Singh arrived in the United States from Hong Kong in 1991, giving the name Davinder Singh at San Francisco International Airport.

Operation Janus does not bode well for the thousands of immigrants who have had to navigate the U.S.' complicated, lengthy, and costly immigration system.

A US District Court in New Jersey on January 5 had entered an order revoking his naturalised US citizenship and cancelling his Certificate of Naturalisation.

Singh is the first person de-naturalized under Operation Janus, an initiative by the Department of Homeland Security to weed out naturalized citizens who circumvented fingerprint and other background checks during the naturalization process.

A Department of Homeland Security initiative, Operation Janus, identified about 315,000 cases where some fingerprint data was missing from the centralized digital fingerprint repository.

A federal judge last week stripped US citizenship from a native of India accused of using one name to enter the country without any papers and another to later file for permanent USA residency after marrying an American citizen.

A New Jersey man has been stripped of his US citizenship after a federal judge ruled that he had failed to disclose a previous deportation order on his naturalization application.

In 2016, the Homeland Security Department's inspector general reported that the US government had mistakenly granted citizenship to at least 858 foreign nationals who were ordered deported and later used different names and birthdates to apply for citizenship.

Lacking valid entry documents, Singh was informed by the government that it would begin proceedings to deny him entry into the USA, court filings state.

Four weeks later, on February 6, 1992, he filed an asylum application under the name Baljinder Singh.

Bruno Mars, Cardi B, SZA, & Logic to Perform at Grammys
The Grammys, hosted by James Corden , air live from New York's Madison Square Garden on January 28 at 7:30 p.m. Mars earned six nominations including album of the year, best R&b album for 24K Magic and song of the year.

In an announcement on January 9, the Department of Justice said in a memo that Baljinder Singh, also known as Davinder Singh, is no longer a naturalized US citizen after the government learned that he may not have gained citizenship lawfully. After allegedly failing to appear for his immigration hearing, he was ordered deported in January 1992.

He answered "no" to questions that asked whether he had ever used other names or given false or misleading information to USA government officials "while applying for any immigration benefit or to prevent deportation, exclusion, or removal", court papers allege.

In 2006, he finally became a naturalised citizen in 2006 after he married an American woman.

He was granted citizenship in 2004 after he submitted an application for naturalization, but the application omitted information about the deportation order and his use of the name Davinder Singh.

Last Friday, a federal judge in New Jersey revoked his naturalization, reverting him back to lawful permanent resident under Green Card status, which means that he can be subject to removal proceedings.
