Katie Couric Just Broke Her Silence on Matt Lauer's Sexual Misconduct Allegations

In November, Matt Lauer was sacked from the Today Show on NBC after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced.

In her People interview, however, Couric dismissed the suggestion it was proof that she knew of Lauer's reputation.

"The whole thing has been very painful for me", the news anchor told People on Saturday.

Woodward told investigators that he left the park after Bernstein went out and didn't return or respond to social media messages. Woodward also had dirt under his fingernails, which he told authorities was due to falling into a "dirty puddle" while sparring.

Couric stressed that throughout her revered Today career, she was wholly unaware of any misconduct on Lauer's end: "I had no idea this was going on during my tenure or after I left". "I think there's been a lot of cognitive dissonance for me and a lot of people on the show, and clearly the behavior was unacceptable and shocking for so many of us, and yet we also all knew a side of Matt and many positive attributes". Matt was a kind and generous colleague who treated me with respect. It's still very upsetting. I really admire the way Savannah [Guthrie] and Hoda [Kotb] and the entire Today show staff have handled a very hard situation, ' she added.

Lauer was sacked by NBC in November after the network received a "detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior", saying it had reason to believe it wasn't an isolated incident.

Couric added that Lauer's conduct to her was always professional, and that he was like a brother.

UN Official: Trump's Vulgar Comments on Africa, Haiti Shameful
Responding to the furor on Friday, Trump said on Twitter that his language was "tough", but "this was not the language used". Donald Trump's comments were allegedly made on Thursday at a White House meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform.

Matt Lauer says his farewell to Katie Couric, his exiting co-host of the NBC "Today" television program in the studio, Wednesday May 31, 2006.

Just a joke: In 2012, Couric said Lauer "pinched her a** a lot" while they worked together. The clip received wide attention online after Lauer's firing in late November. "Thanks for your interest", Couric wrote on Instagram. Following those allegations, multiple women have come forward to accuse Lauer of harassment, and one former NBC employee said the two had an ongoing affair on corporate premises.

Lauer made a statement following the allegations, apologizing and stating "Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed".

China is also seeking to have parts or the river dredged or rapids cleared so that large cargo ships can navigate. China and Cambodia have signed almost 20 deals on the sidelines of the Lancang-Mekong Summit.

Couric is gearing up for the debut in a few months' time of a six-part issues-driven documentary series for National Geogrphic.
