Microsoft withdraws Spectre and Meltdown patch that's borking AMD machines

The issues are appearing on older AMD Athlon systems that received the update for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Image ZDNet

"Microsoft has reports of customers with some AMD devices getting into an unbootable state after installing recent Windows operating system security updates", a Microsoft spokesperson said.

The firm halted nine operating system updates for AMD processors.

Sony reveals that the PlayStation 4 has sold 73.6 million consoles
The platform holder announced that it has sold 5.9m PS4 consoles worldwide between the end of November and December 31st 2017. The holiday season is an ever-important part of the year when it comes to hardware and game sales.

The update is available from within Update & Security in the Settings app.

It's worth noting that Microsoft patched Meltdown and Spectre last week as part of the emergency updates for Windows operating systems. Though you might also argue that Microsoft's pre-patch testing should have stumbled across the issue, perhaps, given that it seems to affect a fair number of AMD-powered PCs, judging by reports across the net (which also seem to suggest that it's older AMD CPUs that are more likely to be affected, in the main). The bugs were expected since the update rolled out in emergency after flaws in Intel, AMD and ARM chips were discovered. Last week the stock rose almost 20 per cent as investors speculated AMD could wrest market share from Intel, whose chips are exposed to risks from possible Meltdown and Spectre attacks. But the overall fix appears to have caused problems for AMD machines regardless.

The Romans are coming to Assassin's Creed Origins
The patch will increase the Heka Chest loot pool with items from the Nightmare, First Civilization, Gladiator and Wacky packs. In this expansion, Bayek will fight against the Romans who have invaded and taken over an entirely new region in the game.

As we noted above, a cumulative update for Windows 10 and Windows 7 caused infinite BSOD loops on AMD.

Microsoft said it is working with AMD to resolve this issue and resume Windows OS security updates to the affected AMD devices "as soon as possible", but said for AMD device-specific information users should contact AMD.

Why not President Oprah? In Trump era, Democrats hail idea
Winfrey never mentioned President Trump in her speech , but alluded to him when she noted the "press is under siege these days". Democrats have been traumatized by recent events, and one of the responses is to throw up your hands and say, "Fine then".

"To prevent AMD customers from getting into an unbootable state, Microsoft will temporarily pause sending the following Windows operating system updates to devices with impacted AMD processors at this time". These calls may cause stop errors (also known as blue screen errors) that make the device unable to boot.
