New York Mayor sues five largest oil companies over global warning

New York City sues five oil companies alleging contributions to climate change

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Comptroller Scott Stringer on Wednesday also pushed the city's five major pension funds to begin studying ways to divest from fossil fuel investments, saying the city should take a more active role in fighting climate change. "At the same time, we're bringing the fight against climate change straight to the fossil fuel companies that knew about its effects and intentionally misled the public to protect their profits".

Exxon this week hit back against the California lawsuits in a filing with a Texas state court pointing out none of the cities disclosed such risks to bond buyers and arguing the lawsuits were politically motivated and linked to cases brought by the states of NY and MA.

Officials announced their goal to dump those investments along with the news that the city is filing a lawsuit against five of the largest Big Oil companies, alleging that those businesses were aware of the industry's contribution to climate change.

The show won't go on: Céline forced to cancel another concert
She then explained that her son had recently had a bone marrow transplant and she wanted everyone in the crowd to be a donor. To further make light of the situation, Celine turned to a Barney classic, "I Love You", as security showed up.

And the city filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court against five big oil companies - BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, and Royal Dutch Shell - looking to force them to help foot the bill for the $20 billion the city is spending to rebuild from Hurricane Sandy and protect itself against future storms.

A ConocoPhillips spokesman said the company doesn't comment on pending litigation.

"Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a global issue and requires global participation and actions", Exxon said in a statement. "Should this litigation proceed, it will only serve special interests at the expense of broader policy, regulatory and economic priorities". If the opinions support the move, they'll vote on proceeding with divestment.

Man City's Ilkay Gundogan: Eye contact key to Sergio Aguero goal
Further goals from Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva completed the turnaround, ending the Clarets' cup hopes for another year. One aspect of this season that seems to be going unnoticed is how well City are converting set pieces into goals .

Clara Vondrich of the DivestInvest campaign says the city joins a movement that started about six years ago.

"New York City is standing up for future generations by becoming the first major US city to divest our pension funds from fossil fuels", de Blasio said in a statement.

In November, Norway's central bank urged the Norwegian government to consider divesting oil and gas company shares held in the $1 trillion oil fund. Exxon is one of the companies the city will sue.
