Schoolgirl declares that man with scissors cut her hijab

Khawlah Noman 11 had her hijab cut off of her by a man while on her way to school Friday. She says he smiled at her when he was doing

Khawlah Noman, 11, and her brother Mohammad Zakarijja were walking to Pauline Johnson Public School in Scarborough when a man sliced her hijab with a pair of scissors on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018.

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. near Pauline Johnson Public School in Toronto's east end.

"The man has fled", Const. David Hopkinson said.

The incident happened Friday morning near the school close to Birchmount Rd. and Sheppard Ave. Police describe the attacker as Asian, in his 20s, with medium build, a moustache and glasses. He wore glasses, a black hoodie and black trousers. Khawlah said she noticed the scissors the suspect was carrying had a blue handle.

In her 20 years as a cop, Sidhu said she had never heard of somebody trying to cut a girl's Hijab before.

"I can't imagine how afraid she must have been". "I want her and her family and her friends and community that that is not what Canada is and that is not who Canadians are". "I like to think she knows that well, and the outpouring of support that I know she's getting". She says she screamed and he ran away, but returned a few minutes later.

Zidane Says, Contract Is Not Important
On Thursday, Levante host Espanyol, Cadiz travel to Sevilla and holders Barcelona welcome Celta Vigo to the Nou Camp. The Frenchman said that he knew he has to work hard to create his legacy as a manager in the Spanish capital.

At an afternoon press conference, 11-year-old Khawlah said she was walking down the street with her brother when a man came up from behind, removed the hood of her winter coat, and cut into her hijab.

When asked what she would say to the suspect, Noman added: "What you're doing is way wrong".

Her brother told reporters that he was frightened, and anxious his sister would be hurt. "I feel safe in this community and it's just not right".

"He continued cutting at my hijab again", Khawlah said. The blue hijab is now with police as evidence. "We must stand firm in our support of this young girl who was assaulted simply for wearing a hijab". "I felt really scared and confused because I didn't feel comfortable that people were doing this". "I am so proud to be a Canadian, and I feel so safe in this community".

"I don't know why he did that, it's just not Canada", Samad said.

"I'm frustrated and I'm angry but I do believe in peace in Canada", Samad said.

City haven't beaten Liverpool at Anfield since the Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008, and haven't won at Anfield for 15 years overall. The Spanish left back has been absent from action for Liverpool since he got injured against Spartak Moscow in December.

The school serves almost 300 kindergarten to grade six students "of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds", according to the local school board.

The incident has caught the attention of Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, who called it a "cowardly act of hatred" in a tweet. "This is not who we are".

Toronto Mayor John Tory also expressed his shock with what he called an "act of hatred".

Kahawlah's mother says she's glad her daughter was not physically harmed and hopes police investigate this as a hate crime.

Anyone with information about the investigation should contact 42 Division at 416-808-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at 222tips.com or text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637).
