Son of former NBA coach Rick Adelman dies after being hit by car

RJ Adelman, the son of former Blazers coach Rick Adelman, was hit and killed in Houston as he crossed a street, TMZ reports.

Officials confirm 44-year-old R.J. Adelman was walking around downtown Houston around noon on February 2 when he was hit by an 80-year-old woman driving a Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

Officers said R.J. Adelman was not in a crosswalk at the time. Besides working for the Rockets, Adelman also worked for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Seattle SuperSonics and Sacramento Kings.

R.J.'s brother, David, is an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets.

Adelman grew up in OR, where his father coached the Portland Trail Blazers to the NBA Finals. He won the NAIA Division II National Championship with the Bearcats in 1993.

The Timberwolves' official Twitter account acknowledged R.J. Adelman's death and paid respects Thursday.

"The Adelmans were an integral part of and positive contributors to our organization and this community from 1983 to 1994", the Blazers said in a statement.
