Another No. 1 seed falls as Florida State rallies past Xavier

Xavier Basketball: Musketeers battle Florida State in second-round

Xavier and Florida State meet in the second round of last seasons NCAA tournament, a game in which the Musketeers boat raced the Seminoles 91-66. Mfiondu Mabengele's putback again made it a one-possession game, and another putback, seconds later, tied the score at 68, capping an 11-3 run.

Xavier led by double-digits five times in the second half, but managed just one field goal over the final 3:58.

Mann, who is averaging 13.2 points and 5.7 rebounds this season, suffered the injury during Friday's win over No. 8 seed Missouri Tigers. After the subsequent called timeout, head coach Leonard Hamilton's group regained momentum behind senior guard Braian Angola who knocked down a jumper to put FSU to within 10 points.

Second Round action continues at the 2018 NCAA Tournament as a strong Xavier team continues on a path to the Final Four. Now Florida State (22-11) will play fourth-seeded Gonzaga on Thursday night in Los Angeles.

No Ola, Uber strike in Bengaluru on Monday
The strike has been called by the Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sena, an offshoot of MNS, in Mumbai as well as other Metro cities. There are over 45,000 such cabs in Mumbai alone, out of which almost 20 percent have stopped plying due to a slump in business.

J.P. Macura led the Musketeers (29-6) with a game-high 17 points before fouling out.

The victor will go on to face the victor of Gonzaga versus Ohio State, regardless of the two teams that meet it should make for one of the better Sweet Sixteen matchups.

"The 6'10" Kanter was instrumental in Xavier keeping up with Florida State's size. They led 56-44 with 10:42 left, and a free throw by Trevon Bluiett gave them a 66-57 edge. The Seminoles (21-12) did inch back - getting as close as 46-40 on Savoy's trey 30 seconds later - but every time Florida State looked primed for a surge, the Musketeers increased their pressure.

The upset by the ninth-seeded Seminoles comes two days after No. 16 seed Maryland-Baltimore County shocked No. 1 Virginia in the first round.

Usually a bad foul shooting team, FSU was 19-for-22 from the charity stripe.

Nevada trailed by 14 in the second half of their first-round game when they forced overtime and beat Texas.

The Musketeers used runs of 8-0 and 10-0 in the game's first 10 1/2 minutes to open up a 24-15 advantage. The Seminoles withstood the runs, made enough shots and celebrated the fifth Sweet 16 appearance in program history.
