Faulty engines: IndiGo, GoAir cancel 50 flights for today

HBJ File

Amid growing concerns over cancellation of numerous flights by IndiGo after grounding of its 11 Airbus A320neo aircrafts, the carrier cleared that it is operating at 96 per cent of its strength. It is expected that impact will be more severe in the coming month, when airline summer schedule begins. The airlines are also offering refunds and alternative flights to its customers suffering from the inconvenience caused by the airlines.

That record was never in danger of being halted against Suarez Navarro after she converted four of her five break points. Kerber didn't even get a break point against the 20-year-old, who connected with 82 per cent of her first serves.

On the back of the India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) cracking their whip on budget carriers IndiGo and GoAir, which were using the A320neo planes powered by faulty Pratt & Whitney engines, both the airlines have made a decision to cancel more than 600 flights this month. The aviation regulator had on March 12 ordered IndiGo and GoAir to immediately ground 11 A320neo planes powered with a certain series of Pratt & Whitney engines after three incidents of mid-air engine failures in less than a month. This takes the total number of cancelled flights to 488 till the end of this month. GoAir has chose to cancel a total of 138 flights between March 15-22, as per announcements made on their respective websites. But even as the airline operator, since the DGCA order, has maintained that the percentage of cancellations is limitedto a small number, those in the know of things said that several routes have been adversely affected over the last few days. The revised schedule of Wadia group-promoted GoAir showed that the airline has cancelled seven daily flights to 10 destinations between March 16 and March 24 apart from cancelling six services per week between March 15 and March 22. Put together, IndiGo and GoAir have cancelled around 626 flights. "If two flights are cancelled, we have a network to accommodate the passengers on other flights", said a senior IndiGo official. "The same has also been published on our website".
