Affleck and Damon have been relatively quiet in recent conversations regarding diversity and women's rights in the entertainment industry after they both found themselves at the center of their own separate controversies. The term reached wide public consciousness earlier this month at the 90th Academy Awards, when best-actress victor Frances McDormand noted it in her acceptance speech.

Cox DiGiovanni had previously helped to create the inclusion rider clause recently popularised by Frances McDormand at the Oscars.

Producer and performer Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni made the announcement Monday night via Twitter at the South by Southwest Film Festival.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who jointly run the production company Pearl Street Company, are reportedly set to include the inclusion rider in their future projects.

"Thank you for always supporting broader representation in the industry", Cox DiGiovanni tweeted.

"We all have stories to tell and we need finance", McDormand said.

The heightened interest in inclusion also follows the #MeToo movement, Time's Up initiative and the success of films with diverse casts and crews, such as "Get Out" and "Black Panther".

USC Annenberg's Stacy Smith proposed inclusion riders in a column at The Hollywood Reporter in 2014.
