MS bans abortions after 15 weeks, no exception for rape or incest

MS lawmakers passed a bill Thursday outlawing abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, a measure that would create the nation's most restrictive abortion law if it is signed by the Republican governor who supports it. The New York-based group, which advocates for free access to abortion, called the bill unconstitutional and "medically unsound". Doctors generally use the procedure in the second trimester.

"I'm really quite frankly exhausted of having to spend time on bills which violate a woman's right to make decisions and for that of her family", Beaux said. It does not allow abortion in cases involving rape or incest.

"The Supreme Court has said and resaid again and again that states can not prohibit women from obtaining abortions prior to viability, which is what a 15-week ban would do", said Hillary Schneller, staff attorney for the national nonprofit Center for Reproductive Rights.

Rep. Tom Burch, D-Louisville, predicted it will cost Kentucky taxpayers about $1 million to defend the measure from a possible lawsuit.

The bill also requires that physicians provide the Mississippi Department of Health with a record of the abortion, including the date and method of the procedure and estimated gestational age of the fetus, within 15 days of the procedure. The House Judiciary Committee approved it Wednesday on a 13-4 vote.

"We are stressing that this does not outlaw abortions".

He said his "Facebook admin" had put up a post comparing the razing down of Lenin's statue in Tripura to that of Periyar. The cases of vandalism don't bode well for BJP which is still in its nascent stage of governance in Tripura.

"We would welcome the court to clarify the extent to which states can regulate abortions, particularly with regard to maternal health", Taylor said.

"The real agenda from some state legislators is to ban abortion outright".

But Collins insists the bill "will do nothing to make abortion safer or support a woman's decision-making".

"HB 1510 will seriously harm low-income women, women of color, and young women".

In January, the U.S. Senate rejected a bill that would ban most abortions after 20 weeks.

Dr. Jennifer Hoffman, who works at the University of Louisville, disagreed with Wuchner. The ruling offered no legal definition of viability, saying it could range between 24 and 28 weeks into a pregnancy.

"I think that's probably a good thing", she said.

Under the bill, abortion providers found in violation would be guilty of a Class D felony that carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

"Each places a substantial obstacle in the path of women seeking a previability abortion, each constitutes an undue burden on abortion access. and each violates the Federal Constitution".

Pro-abortion-rights groups are voicing opposition to a MS bill that would ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

Dr. Lynda Sanders, a Lexington neonatologist, told the panel of lawmakers it was "exceptionally cruel" to dismember a fetus.

"To me, it's a medical issue not to be interfered with by the Legislature", Dawkins said.
