Trump ousts Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, replaces him with Mike Pompeo

Mike pompeo

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he had replaced U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with Central Intelligence Agency Director Mike Pompeo, and had tapped Gina Haspel to lead the CIA.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo, if confirmed as the next secretary of state, would bring a number of assets to his new role as the top US diplomat: the confidence of President Donald Trump, government experience and an insider's knowledge of Congress and the federal bureaucracy.

A senior White House official said Mr Trump asked Tillerson to step down on Friday but did not want to make it public while he was on a trip to Africa.

Instead, Tillerson's side of the story came later from Steve Goldstein, undersecretary of State for public diplomacy.

The State Department has confirmed the fact.

"We disagreed on things", Trump said moments later, a diplomatic version of a hard relationship with his top diplomat that included reports that Tillerson had called the president a moron in meetings with other officials.

Trump said he will nominate CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace the former Exxon Mobil chief executive and Deputy CIA Director Gina Haspel to run the spy agency.

Tata to sell $1.25 billion stake in TCS to pay debt
Tata Sons is reportedly planning to use the proceeds to pay debts of units Tata Teleservices and Tata Teleservices Maharashtra. The proceeds of the share sales will reportedly be used by Tata Sons to pay creditors of its wireless division.

Tillerson is set to replaced by current CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

Mr. Trump made Tuesday's move while Mr. Tillerson, formerly the CEO of ExxonMobil, was out of the country, finishing a week-long tour of several African nations.

Vincent Viola The Army veteran and former chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange was nominated by Trump to be secretary of the Army, but withdrew his name from consideration in February.

Trump's change puts an ardent foe of the Iran nuclear deal in charge of USA diplomacy as the president also dives into high-stakes talks with North Korea. With Mike Pompeo we have a very similar thought process.

But Goldstein says Tillerson "did not speak to the president and is unaware of the reason".

The Washington Post first reported the news, which the president quickly confirmed in a tweet.

The biggest shakeup of Trump's Cabinet since he took office in January 2017 was announced by the president on Twitter as his administration works toward an unprecedented meeting with the leader of North Korea.

Rex Tillerson out as Secretary of State, replaced by CIA director
The New York Times quoted sources as saying Mr Trump was irritated by Mr Tillerson's body language during meetings. Replacing Pompeo at the CIA will be Gina Haspel, the deputy director of the agency, reported the Washington Post .

"Congratulations to all!" the president said.

Tillerson's reponse broke with the White House line, which stopped short of blaming Russian Federation for the attack. "I wish him all the best in his future endeavors".

There was the usual clutch of polite, smarmy statements from all sides, but the sacking of Tillerson was abrupt and humiliating, redolent of Trump's reality TV style famously showcased in The Apprentice. Paid $27.3 million previous year, Tillerson has accumulated roughly $160 million in Exxon stock along with $149 million of unvested stock options, according a proxy statement the company filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Tillerson, like most in the administration, seemed to be blindsided by Trump's acceptance of a meeting with the North Korean dictator.

In fact, according to a report by Fox News, the president chose to make this decision ahead of the expected upcoming summit between him and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Trump publicly undercut Tillerson's diplomatic initiatives numerous times and Tillerson appeared out of the loop last week when Trump announced plans to meet with North Korea's Kim. Rex is a very good man.
