Investigators say a Binghamton University student has been taken into custody in connection with the stabbing death of another student on the Vestal campus.

Police responded Sunday night to Windham Hall, where they found 19-year old Souza suffering from stab wounds. Classes were canceled for the day at BU on Monday, April 16, as a result of the tragedy. The person was described as a "light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and a dark, Puma hooded sweatshirt".

Engineering university student Joao Souza was assaulted at roughly 10:30 pm Sunday in a house package on the campus near the Pennsylvania state line.

The 08-year-old girl was held captive in a temple, sedated and gang-raped multiple times before being murdered by the accused. He further added that a reward of Rs 20,000 has been announced for anyone providing information about the girl or her family.

"So I think that for the foreseeable future, there will be an increased police presence across the campus", said Binghamton University Police Chief Tim Faughnan.

"As someone who was a student until a few months ago, and someone who is still a part of the BU community, it's tough to hear about something like this happening on campus", Taylor said.

In the day, university authorities released surveillance pictures of the suspect as they inquired for the public's aid, wearing dark trousers and a dark sweatshirt.
