Amber Rudd: Windrush generation treatment 'appalling'

New rules require documentary evidence of the right to be here which many Windrush children do not have as anyone who arrived in the UK from a Commonwealth country before 1971 was given indefinite leave to remain meaning many did not apply for a British

Labour MP David Lammy poured scorn on the Conservative Party in the House of Commons today, describing their "small U-turn" on the Windrush generation as a "day of national shame".

Labour's shadow home secretary Diane Abbott told Ms Rudd the Government "must consider" offering compensation to those affected.

More than 140 British MPs signed a letter to Prime Minister Theresa May asking her to resolve the immigration status of those long-time British residents born in Commonwealth territories, who have been recently misidentified as "illegal immigrants", facing several legal problems and even deportation. "If you lay down with dogs you get fleas, and that is what has happened with this far-right rhetoric in this country". The Having grown up and lived in the country their entire lives and having paid National Insurance contributions, some of these citizens have never felt the need to formalise their right to living in the UK.

"Will the Secretary of State apologise properly?"

The Labour MP has called for an immediate amnesty for anyone who arrived in the United Kingdom as a child between 1948 and 1971, gathering a petition of over 100,000 signatures - the figure needed to potentially trigger a debate in Parliament.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd has been forced to apologise after the government admitted it may have wrongly deported people from the so-called Windrush generation who have lived in the United Kingdom legally for decades.

Brixton Stabbing: Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Murdering Woman
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course". A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray near the scene of another separate attack in Haringey, north London.

Mrs May's official spokesman said: "She deeply values the contribution made by these and all Commonwealth citizens who have made a life in the United Kingdom, and is making sure the Home Office is offering the correct solution for individual situations".

"That admiration remains in place".

Rudd said: "I am concerned that the Home Office has become too concerned with policy and strategy and sometimes lost sight of the individual". This is about individuals.

'We have seen the individual stories, and they have been, some of them, awful to hear, and that is why I have acted.' She was challenged over an interview in which immigration minister Caroline Nokes appeared to confirm that some Windrush migrants had been wrongly deported.

"And that is why I have acted".

"That's why I am setting up a new area in my department to ensure that we have a completely new approach to how their situation is regularised".

Olynyk helps Heat to Game 2 victory over 76ers
It wasn't, however, because he was in foul trouble (only one personal foul on the night). For the 76ers, Ben Simmons' 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists were in vain.

Their legal status changed overnight despite living, working and paying tax in Britain for decades, because they do not have sufficient paperwork to prove they have the right to be in the UK.

One of the first ships to bring West Indian immigrants to London in 1948 was called 'Empire Windrush', hence the name.

The Windrush migrants were advised that they need to produce evidence including passports, to continue working or receiving treatment from the NHS.

It has seen some Windrush generation residents, who might never have felt the need to apply for a United Kingdom passport before, left without the documentation now required by officials.
