Dinosaur footprints discovered on Scotland's Isle of Skye

MONSTER TRACKS The gigantic Sauropods walked the earth over 170million years ago

Described in the Scottish Journal of Geology, the two tracks of footprints left in lagoon sediment, along with a scattering of other prints, are among the few known to have come from the Middle Jurassic period and show sauropods were "so successful that they were probably exploring whatever environments they could", Steve Brusatte of the University of Edinburgh tells National Geographic.

Researchers measured, photographed and analysed about 50 footprints in the tidal area of Brothers' Point.

But 170 million years ago, some very different beasts were leaving their mark on the Isle of Skye.

The discovery was made in Brother's Point (Rubha nam Brathairean), where are about 50 footprints of dinosaurs, extraordinarily well-preserved, a lot of them belonging to sauropods (long-necked herbivores) and theropods (carnivores like the Tyrannosaurus). "[There were] only footprints, no handprints: this was a dinosaur just walking on its hind legs", he added, saying the creature would have weighed about a tonne and was around five or six metres in length.

Microsoft brings Canberra cloud region online
The program is aimed at all skill levels and will run across Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. Canberra Data Centres now operates four facilities - three in Hume and another one in Fyshwick.

Palaeontologist Paige dePolo, an Edinburgh University student who led the study as part of her degree, said: "This tracksite is the second discovery of sauropod footprints on Skye".

Teams of researchers work on uncovering as much evidence as they can find of dinosaurs that roamed our planet millions of years ago.

In all, the paleontologists found about 50 track marks, majority left by the long-necked sauropods.

Researchers have discovered a cache of massive dinosaur footprints in Scotland, ones that date back to the Mid-Jurassic period.

China diplomat says any new U.S. tariffs to draw 'same proportion' response
Now he is moving toward steep tariffs to pressure Beijing into treating US technology companies more fairly. Policies should be tailored to control risks in different financial markets, he said.

Belonging to big long-necked Sauropods and Therapods - the "older cousins" of Tyrannosaurus Rex, the fresh finds include dozens of footprints dating back to the Middle-Jurassic period. They're thought to be about 170 million years old from the mid-Jurassic period, and belong to some species of long-necked sauropods, the most famous of which is the brachiosaurus.

Apparently tidal conditions are making the site hard to study, but researchers have found at least 50 tracks - the largest of which measure 70cm across.

Based on the shapes of these prints, captured using drones and cameras, the researchers figured out they were made both by more rounded sauropod feet and three-toed, bird-like theropod feet.

In the paper, the team suggests that Breviparopus, a genus of dinosaur inferred by its tracks only, left the sauropod footprints.

Myanmar minister to visit Rohingya refugee camps
Addressing reports that the Rohingya did not want to return to Myanmar, Dr Surakiart said: "So far they have not yet returned". He said there were about 56 women, men and children on board and that the Rohingya would continue toward their destination.

The scientists are continuing to put together the puzzle on how dinosaurs lived on the Isle of Skye in the Middle Jurassic.
