ESPN Launches $5 Streaming Service, Without Their TV Channels

New ESPN Service Tries to Catch Streaming Wave

Disney first announced previous year that it would be launching its first ever direct-to-consumer video streaming service in the form of ESPN+, with pricing confirmed in February ... ESPN+ is just the first on-demand and live video delivery service that Disney is planning to launch, with a Disney-branded video on demand service coming in late 2019. But it's still worth repeating, at least in part because regular people might reasonably assume that an ESPN streaming service will give you ESPN.

The service will include specialty programming for sports like rugby and cricket, along with select Major League Baseball and NHL games, global sports and more - but no NFL games. It works on all the major platforms, including iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire.

Tyson Fury comeback: Former heavyweight champion reveals new promoter and fight date
Former WBA Super, WBO, IBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has confirmed his return under a new promoter. Fury has not fought since beating Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 to win the WBA, IBF and WBO belts.

Without an ESPN+ subscription, meanwhile, the list of things you get to play with is significantly shorter.

ESPN+ has been launched and will cost you $5 a month. The service will also let users stream the library of ESPN films like its "30 for 30" documentaries. But ESPN head Jimmy Pitaro told the outlet that he is "actively engaged" in conversations about competitive video gaming, and is "going to continue to expand our investment in eSports and that includes within both the ESPN app and ESPN+". However, you should note that its offering is not similar to the ESPN we are all familiar with. CBS Sports HQ utilizes the combined resources of CBS Sports,, 247Sports, SportsLine, CBS Sports Fantasy and MaxPreps to deliver a robust sports network with live news and reporting, game previews and post-game analysis, must-see highlights, projections and in-depth statistical breakdowns. For just $4.99 a month, MLS fans can watch hundreds of out-of-market MLS games plus gain access to thousands of other ESPN events, original shows and films - including USL and global soccer. Furthermore, if Disney is able to win over FOX, then ESPN+ will be the flawless platform to offer those new content as add-ons.

Share Rating Recap: Nokia Corp (NOK)
Keeping tabs on historical price performance, as well as both long-term and short-term trends, can be very useful. A percentage that's positive means that profits exceed costs - so analysts consider the investment as a net gain.

"The company doesn't think ESPN+ will put a real dent in ESPN's ongoing subscriber losses", wrote Recode reporter Peter Kafka.
