Facebook sued for allegedly allowing housing discrimination

The lawsuit comes at a delicate time for Facebook as it continues to deal with the fallout from the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

In a statement to ConsumerAffairs, a spokesperson for Facebook denied the allegations in the suit.

The lawsuit was filed earlier in the day by the National Fair Housing Alliance and other related organizations.

"There is absolutely no place for discrimination on Facebook", the company said, declaring that the lawsuit has no merit.

SPOs shot at in south; one dies, another injured
According to reports, three Indian soldiers were injured during an ongoing encounter in Kachdoora village in South Kashmir. Medical Superintendent (MS) district hospital Shopian, Dr Shafat informed media that they received over 50 injured.

Now, Facebook appears to be reevaluating how it approves apps due to how easily the third-party survey app, called "thisisyourdigitallife", was able to mine data and sell it with little to no oversight from Facebook, and for Cambridge Analytica to retain that data even after claiming to the company that it had deleted it.

Fair housing advocates sued Facebook on Tuesday, saying it lets landlords and real estate brokers craft advertising that discriminates against families with children, women and those with disabilities.

"When this feature is enabled, uploading your contacts also allows us to use information like when a call or text was made or received". Regulators and attorneys general across the country are now probing Facebook's role in the data collection, and the Federal Trade Commission announced Monday it was investigating the company.

"Facebook has known for years that its advertising platform violates civil rights laws, but it has refused to change its ways on a voluntary basis", Diane L. Houk, one of the attorneys representing the housing groups, said in a statement. Facebook estimated that the ads would reach 48,000 to 820,000 people, the lawsuit said.

Everton vs Manchester City
To the surprise of no-one, Guardiola isn't getting ahead of himself and says no title celebrations have been scheduled just yet. City punished the Merseysiders as they surged up the field from the resulting goal-kick and doubled their lead.

Facebook earned almost all of its more than $40 billion in revenue in 2017 by selling ads on its network.

The suit seeks class-action status.

But a second article by ProPublica in November found that housing ads that specifically excluded African Americans, people interested in wheelchair ramps, Jews and Spanish speakers could still be placed on Facebook's platform.

Still, in November of a year ago, ProPublica was able to buy dozens of rental housing ads that excluded blacks, Jews, people interested in wheelchair ramps, mothers of high school kids, and Spanish speakers.
