ISRO successfully puts into orbit IRNSS-1I navigation satellite

2 Weeks After Mission That Failed ISRO Readies Another Satellite Launch

IRNSS-1H was ISRO's first backup satellite, launched in August 2017 with the intention of replacing IRNSS-1A.

However, the seven satellites are part of the NavlC navigation satellite constellation.

The launch of the IRNSS-1I comes two weeks after ISRO lost contact with GSAT 6A satellite.

In August a year ago, the previous mission of a PSLV carrying IRNSS-1H failed after the heat shield covering the satellite failed to separate.

By Hemanth C S IRNSS-1I is slated to blast off from Sriharikota at 4 am on ThursdayIsro has scheduled an early morning launch for the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, IRNSS-1I navigation satellite on April 12.

With the launch of the IRNSS 1I now imminent, ISRO has further sought to counter the CAG's criticism by saying that the satellite has been fabricated by the private sector.

The workhorse, PSLV, injected the satellite into orbit 19 minutes after lift-off from the Sathish Dhawan Space Centre here.

"Currently, GSAT-6A is moving in the geo transfer orbit at perigee of around 26,000km and apogee of about 33,000km", Isro director Dr Sivan was quoted as saying.

Payloads: Like its other IRNSS predecessors, IRNSS-1I also carries two types of payloads - navigation payload and ranging payload. "We have developed our own atomic clocks which would be used in the upcoming navigation satellites", the chairman said. "Similarly, the IRNSS-1I satellite will be put in a particular location", he added.

PSLV-XL rocket which was carrying the IRNSS-1I. It also carries Corner Cube Retro Reflectors for LASER Ranging. Through messages, they will also be apprised about potential fishing zones. The former is for all users while the latter is an encrypted service only for authorised users. The fishermen can also get alert messages relating to bad weather, high waves or when they approach global maritime boundary lines. These services are provided through a software application on a smart phone.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to gear up for a launch to boost its Navic fleet. An inquiry later found an explosive had failed to detonate fully, to break the latch of the heat case or conical top of the PSLV, where satellites are housed as they are carried into space.

Each satellite has a life span of 10 years.

Till now, PSLV has successfully launched 52 Indian satellites and 237 customer satellites from overseas.
