National Football League reportedly suspends Mark Sanchez four games

Mark Sanchez says he's taken 73 drug tests during his NFL career

Free agent quarterback Mark Sanchez was issued a four-game suspension by the National Football League on Friday after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, but says he unknowingly took the banned substances.

Sanchez, 31, played for the Bears last season as their third-string quarterback, but did not throw a pass in a regular-season game.

Sanchez never played like the franchise quarterback the Jets envisioned when they selected him with their No. 1 overall pick in 2009. He says he has been "subject to 73 drug tests" and "all but one have been clean".

Sanchez confirmed he tested positive for a banned substance and released a statement saying he suspects supplement contamination.
