English Premier League rules out VAR next season Above Waiting for VAR’s verdict during an FA Cup match

A Premier League release notes that England's top flight will be aggregating data and expertise from all the leagues now using VAR in their competitions before adopting a system of its own.

VAR is already being used in some leagues, including the Bundesliga, and will be at the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer.

Premier League officials want the system to be implemented for FA Cup and League Cup matches again next term.

Supporters have often been left baffled while games have been stopped for lengthy periods of time while decisions are being made.

"The only experience I had was the West Brom game and it was very interesting".

"The decision came after comprehensive discussions regarding the progress made in VAR trials in English football and key learning from the many competitions elsewhere using it". "We are all agreed it took a little long for all decisions".

The Premier League clubs have called for further testing of VAR's viability in the domestic cup competitions in 2018-19 while also approving the expansion of "non-live" trials. "It's not ideal in the moment". "I prefer the referee's decision is final".

Premier League clubs have decided not to introduce video assistant referees next season.

IFAB technical director and former Premier League referee David Elleray said 40 countries were using, trialling or interested in VAR technology.
