Rare reveals what's on the horizon for Sea of Thieves

Rare says that the first content update for Sea of Thieves will be called The Hungering Deep, bringing a risky new AI threat to the seas that will force crews to work together. Rare has recently outlined some of the new content that will be coming to Sea of Thieves in the near future.

In the three weeks since Sea of Thieves launched on Xbox One and Windows PC, players have wondered about what's next for Rare's open-world pirate adventure. The weekly events may also bring in new mechanics, but they will also focus on giving players unique goals to achieve that shake up the gameplay.

2 cats killed in Brighton house fire
The fire was moving toward Broekers Lane, but Barrow couldn't say Friday afternoon whether more evacuations would be necessary. SJRFD F/F Chris Cooper of the central fire station exits the home on Cabot Street after battling the elements inside.

Sea of Thieves design director Mike Chapman and executive producer Joe Neate talked about the development roadmap for the game in a new video and how Rare plans new "ways to enrich the world" and deliver "things that surprise you". The Hungering Deep will be a permanent fixture in the game, with new mechanics and rewards, but will kick off with a timed event that Rare plans to start teasing soon.

It will also introduce a number of new mechanics to aid players taking part in the adventure, and of course, there will be new rewards. That'll arrive in May, followed by weekly events with "new ways to play". Among other features, Cursed Sails will herald the arrival of a new ship type while Forsaken Shores, as evident by its name, will offer a "perilous new part of the world to explore". These are on the backburner for now while things are added to the game in other areas. Those that take part in the event will be able to earn some unique rewards as well.

Police 'BLOCK' entrance to sick tot Alfie Evans' hospital as protestors gather
The judge described Alfie's life as "profoundly unfair" but accepted medical evidence that showed further treatment was futile. On Thursday night, police were called after hundreds of protesters gathered outside Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

The studio noted that due to shifting priorities, it's putting two previously discussed elements - pets and ship captaincy - on the back burner.

While these updates still seem somewhat sparse, it's great to see that Microsoft is working towards responding to most of Sea of Thieves early criticism. These updates look like they're going to remedy that, but the question is will players still be around to experience it.
