Rolls-Royce To Increase Inspections On Some 787 Engines

Rolls-Royce's Trent 1000 engines to undergo further inspections as it warns of disruption to customers

In an update this morning, Rolls-Royce said: "The increased inspection frequency is driven by our further understanding of the durability of the Trent 1000 Package C compressor, a condition that we highlighted earlier this year".

The engine's problems have already forced airlines to change schedules and lease other aircraft but moves to reduce Extended Range Twin Engine Operational Performance Standards (ETOPS) for affected planes will have further consequences for long-haul routes.

Issues with components on the Trent 1000 and an engine used on the Airbus SE A380 led to a 170 million-pound hit on Rolls's cash flow a year ago, and that figure was already set to double in 2018.

Air New Zealand is making changes to some worldwide flights after being forced to carry out early maintenance checks on its engines.

Bloomberg reports the United States Federal Aviation Administration is about to order that aircraft fitted with Package C engines have the flight time over water and remote areas slashed.

National Football League reportedly suspends Mark Sanchez four games
Sanchez confirmed he tested positive for a banned substance and released a statement saying he suspects supplement contamination. Sanchez has bounced around the league with the Bears, Dallas Cowboys , and Philadelphia Eagles the last four seasons.

Rolls said it would reprioritise spending to mitigate the costs and kept its 2018 free cash flow guidance unchanged at around 450 million pounds ($643 million), give or take 100 million pounds. Citigroup restated a "buy" rating and issued a GBX 1,060 ($14.98) price target on shares of Rolls-Royce in a research report on Thursday, March 8th.

Rolls said there were 380 such engines in service.

Boeing said that about 25% of the Dreamliners flying were powered by the engine and it was deploying support teams to help to manage service disruptions.

We will be working closely with Boeing and affected airlines to minimise disruption wherever possible.

The need to inspect and fix Trent 1000 engines has led to an industry-wide shortage.

Hearing related to Federal Bureau of Investigation raid at Trump lawyer's office is set
Today, prosecutors acknowledged publicly for the first time Friday that they seized records this week from Cohen. Her argument was rooted in proper attorney-client privilege and the fact that Trump is commander in chief.

"While the compressor technical issue was known at the time of our results, the requirement for more regular inspections will lead to higher than previously guided cash costs being incurred during 2018", it said in a statement.

A Virgin spokeswoman said it had been aware of the increased inspections announced on Friday and that the cover it had in place would be sufficient.

Air New Zealand also has Trent 1000 TEN model engines in its 787 fleet and these are unaffected.

Scoot, a budget carrier owned by Singapore Airlines, said it expected some impact on operations.
