Sensex pares some losses to reclaim 34K; Nifty above 10400

The BSE Sensex fell almost 300 points to trade below the 34,000 mark at day's low after a US-led strike on Syrian targets fuelled fresh geopolitical concerns.

Rising for the 8th straight session the Sensex zoomed over 100 points at while the Nifty reclaimed 10,500 level on Monday as the wholesale price-indexed (WPI) inflation softened in March. 30-share BSE Sensex lost nearly 150 points to open below 34,000-mark, but the index soon mad e a comeback and was at 34,119.45, still 73.20 points down, at 9.30 am.

BSE Sensex zoomed over 112.78 points at 34,305.43 and the NSE Nifty climbed 47.75 points to 10,528.35. Infosys shares fell over 4 per cent in the morning trade as investors were concerned about rising impairment losses related to its previous acquisitions.

Shares of Infosys fell 3.10 per cent after company reported less-than-expected FY19 revenue guidance. It was the top loser in the Nifty50 pack of stocks. Japan's Nikkei, however, was up 0.26%.

Other major losers were Tata Motors, Axis Bank, Tata Steel, ONGC, Reliance, and Bharti Airtel, falling by up to 2.71%.

Hero MotoCorp (2.02%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.88%) and Adani Ports (1.85%) were the top gainers on Sensex.
