Theresa May grilled in United Kingdom parliament over Syria airstrikes

Trump has yet to articulate a long-term US strategy for dealing with the grinding, multi-sided war in Syria, which has lasted more than seven years, killed hundreds of thousands and triggered an epic refugee crisis.

Sites near Damascus and Homs were hit on Saturday by the US, French and United Kingdom in response to the alleged chemical attack on Douma on 7 April.

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday, and in a joint statement released by the Kremlin they called the missile strike an "illegal action", that "seriously damages the prospects for a political settlement in Syria".

And the United States called for a clear condemnation by the OPCW of "the Syrian government for its reign of chemical terror".

Peskov said only that Russian Federation was against "groundless" accusations about who was responsible for the attack.

Russian Federation and Iran called the use of force by the United States and its French and British allies a "military crime" and "act of aggression".

Saturday's airstrikes have further aggravated relations between Britain and Russia, which were already at their lowest in decades following a nerve agent attack on a former Russian double agent and his daughter in England last month.

Investigators Back on Scene of Fatal Plane Crash in Albemarle County
Emergency crews have responded to an apparent plane crash in western Albemarle County near Crozet, WVAW reports. The pilot and passenger of a small plane that crashed in a rural OH county were identified Monday evening.

Putin, the Kremlin added, stressed that if "such actions, carried out in violation of the UN Charter, continue, it will inevitably lead to chaos in worldwide relations".

Those assertions have been denounced as lies by Western officials.

However, they agreed to not allow "fire of a new tension" to flare up in the region.

But it would not give MPs the chance to formally approve or reject the air strikes themselves, says the BBC's political editor, Laura Kuenssberg. Had it fallen elsewhere, "we'd see a fraction of deaths, and you probably wouldn't have even heard about it happening", he said.

"Everyone is going to feel it at this point", Ms Haley said, warning of consequences for Mr Assad's foreign allies.

On Monday, CBS News made it to the house where the chemical attack took place.

Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie said 105 missiles were launched by air and sea, all hitting their targets within minutes. When pressed, however, he acknowledged that some unspecified portion of Assad's chemical arms infrastructure was not targeted.

America has 3 goals in Syria: US' Haley
Russian Federation and its ally Syria called the attack fabricated and said no evidence of chemical weapons use exists in Douma. She hit back on critics who argue the United States didn't go far enough because it had other interests in the war-torn nation.

U.S., French and British missile attacks struck at the heart of Syria's chemical weapons programme on Saturday in retaliation for a suspected poison gas attack a week ago, and the three countries insisted they were not aimed at toppling President Bashar al-Assad or intervening in a seven-year civil war. The U.S. says it suspects that sarin gas also was used.

On Monday, Syrian and Russian authorities prevented investigators from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons from going to the scene, the head of the OPCW said, blocking worldwide efforts to establish what happened and who was to blame. It later deployed another 5,000 security forces there.

A false alarm set off Syrian air defense systems early on Tuesday, the military said, denying earlier reports of an "outside aggression" and incoming airstrikes and underscoring the chaotic nature of the multiple actors in Syria's theater of war.

Participants at the protest, who included families with small children, also criticized the use of Cyprus as a launch-pad for attacks against the Syrian people.

France, meanwhile, has reached out to Russian Federation, urging it to join renewed peace efforts.

Despite describing the intervention as "successful", Britain's foreign minister said there were now no plans for further attacks.

While he declared success, the Pentagon said the pummelling of three chemical-related facilities left enough others intact to enable the Assad government to use banned weapons against civilians if it chooses.
