Zarif is heading a high-ranking political-economic delegation during his visit to China.

Their meeting focused on the prospects of the Iran nuclear deal after the USA withdrawal from it, according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Mogherini is scheduled to chair talks between Iran's foreign minister and his British, French and German counterparts in Brussels on Tuesday to discuss the USA withdrawal from the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The meeting follows this week's USA decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, to which Germany, France and Britain are also signatories, alongside Russian Federation and China.
