Despite court order, Omo-Agege fails to resume Senate plenary

We Will Allow Omo-Agege Resume In His Office – Senate

The duo of Ndume and Omo- Agege are to appear Wednesday before the Senate and House Representatives Joint Committee that is Investigating the Incident of the Senate Chamber Invasion on their alleged roles in the attack of the Senate Hallowed Chamber on April 18, 2018 and subsequent carting away of the Mace, the symbol of authority.

The embattled lawmaker has premised his resumption on the high court judgement that vacated the suspension slammed on him by the hallowed chamber.

The incident which occurred while plenary was ongoing in the chambers was linked to Omo-Agege, who defied the suspension order on him and attended the proceedings, accompanied by some odd fellows into the chamber.

When the court delivered judgement in his favour, he made declarations that he was going to be in plenary to continue to represent his constituents.

The Senate has said Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who was suspended but whose suspension was invalidated by a Federal High Court, can resume today.

Following the judgement, an aide to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, said the Senate has approached a higher court to appeal the ruling and institute a stay of execution.

"The Senate has been advised that since the motion for stay of execution of the Thursday (May 10, 2018) judgement shall be heard and possibly determined on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, we shall therefore respect the subsisting High Court judgement and await the appellate court's decision on the pending motion".

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on Tuesday, failed to attend Senate's plenary, despite series of boasts that he will storm the chamber.

Omo-Agege spoke at the APC National secretariat citing his legal victory.

"As regards to Omo-Agege, based on the testimony of the DPO, the SSS and the sergeant at arms, you are alleged to have entered the National Assembly accompanied by seven persons who allegedly took the mace of the Senate during plenary session on April 18, at about 11:30 a.m".

The Senate in April suspended Mr Omo-Agege, for accusing his colleagues of working against President Muhammadu Buhari's re-election plans in 2019.

Dimgba also ordered the Senate to pay Omo-Agege any outstanding salaries or allowances which were due to him during the period of the suspension.

Asked if he would drag the security agencies to court, Omo-Agege said, "I know what to do, and they know that I know what to do".

The ruling judge, Nnamdi Dimgba said the Senate is only empowered to suspend an erring member for 14 days and 1 legislative day.

Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, filed the suit to challenge his suspension from the senate.
