Karolina Pliskova took to the umpire's chair with her racquet after a bad call

You rarely see the kind of fury Thiem displayed on the women's circuit however, where action tends to be a lot calmer.

Karolina Pliskova is now the world number six in the women's singles rankings, and topped the pile as recently as July 2017.

At 5-5 in the match-deciding set, Pliskova overhead smashed a slow-dropping ball for what she assumed was a winning point.

Gavrilova came from 4-0 down in the final set to edge third seed Muguruza 5-7 6-2 7-6 (8-6) in a marathon clash lasting more than three hours. The victory means the 24-year-old Gavrilova recorded her first top 10 victory of the year, and her first back-to-back match wins since Acapulco in February.

The chair umpire acknowledged that she "lost" the ball mark and therefore said the point should be awarded to Sakkari.

Instead of shaking hands with Mrozinska, Pliskova left a hole in the umpire chair-a move that will very likely result in a fine though none has been announced yet.

Bell's pinch-hit RBI leads Pirates past White Sox, 3-2
Earlier today I wrote that Williams has been playing with fire this season due to control issues and a lack of swings and misses. This double - which was hit off of left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer - would score Frazier to run the score to 7-0 Pirates.

Pliskova had argued heatedly with umpire Marta Mrozinska after her smash was called out when serving at 30-30 and 5-5 in the final set, and her Greek opponent won the game before serving out the match.

It remains to be seen what action will be taken against Pliskova, but the world number five's twin sister may also face punishment.
