Facebook suspends around 200 apps over potential data misuse

In its first update since the company announced in March it was conducting an internal audit, the company said that the apps would be going through a complete investigation into if they misused data of users.

Since suspending Cambridge Analytica for using an app to exploit user information almost two months ago, Facebook says it has now suspended an additional 200 more apps.

The move comes after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg vowed earlier this year to look into all applications that "had access to large amounts of information before we changed our platform to dramatically reduce data access in 2014".

"There is a lot more work to be done to find all the apps that may have misused people's Facebook data - and it will take time", Facebook's Archibong added. As CNN explained, the goal is to crack down on any kind of egregious data breach like that of election consulting firm Cambridge Analytica.
