Nawaz rejects NSC's declaration, demands National Commission to unearth facts

Nawaz, in a informal discussion with reporters at the accountability court today, reiterated his stance on the remarks regarding the Mumbai attacks made during an exclusive interview with Dawn.

His comments stirred a controversy, prompting the National Security Committee (NSC) - Pakistan's top civil-military body - to call a high-level meeting.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) seeks applications from those who meant to contest upcoming general elections PML (N)'s ticket.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday slammed the former premier Nawaz Sharif over his recent statement on 2008 Mumbai attacks. "The participants unanimously rejected the allegations and condemned the fallacious assertions", it said. The participants observed that it was very unfortunate that the opinion arising out of either misconceptions or grievances was being presented in disregard of concrete facts and realities.

The statement was a rare rebuke of Sharif by a government run by his own party, highlighting political tension in the run-up to a general election expected in July.

Ten gunmen spent three days spraying bullets and throwing grenades around landmarks.

The meeting recalled that was not Pakistan, but India that has delayed the finalisation of the case. Pakistan admitted the attacks were planned on its soil but denied any official involvement, and did not confirm the gunmen had set sail from Karachi.

In a rare moment of unity, lawmakers from different parties in the Sindh Assembly moved resolutions on Monday condemning Nawaz's interview regarding the Mumbai attack and asked him to tender an apology. He said there should only be one constitutional government.
