NDP, Tories tied at 37 per cent support, new poll suggests

The Progressive Conservative leader and the Liberal premier raised the alarm Wednesday about what they consider the risks of supporting the New Democrats, after recent polls suggest the party is tied with the Tories for the most support with two weeks left until the provincial election.

Kathleen Wynne's Liberals are said to be down to 23 per cent, while the Greens under Mike Schreiner stand at four per cent support according to Poll Tracker.

Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford will be campaigning in the southwest, making an announcement in Woodslee, Ont., and then heading to Kingsville, Ont., for a meet and greet before attending a rally this evening in Chatham, Ont.

"It's pretty clear that people have decided Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals are not going to form government next time around", said NDP Leader Andrea Horwath.

The New Democrats have released a full platform, and the Liberals have so far been campaigning on the policies laid out in their recent budget.

In his first public appearance since the National Post broke the story that Ford paid for memberships for new members - contrary to party rules - Ford denied the claims made by a former top party official and a party member who was present at the 2016 vote.

"People want change (but) they don't want an NDP government", Ford said in Toronto.

Her government has helped ensure strong business, a strong economy and a fairer society - accomplishments too important to abandon, Wynne said.

"But if you look at different areas within the province, there's kind of a different picture emerging", she said, noting the battle within Toronto appears to be between the Liberals and the NDP. "We went through an appeals process and the appeal was totally dismissed", Ford said at a campaign stop at a metal fabrication company in Tillsonburg, about 30 kilometres southeast of London.

"I think most Ontarians want a plan.want something to maybe not hope for but to believe in and we don't see that with Doug Ford", she said.

On Thursday afternoon, PC Leader Ford tweeted out a video in which McCallion said he was the right leader to "bring Ontario back to its status as the leading province in Canada".

He said his focus is on creating jobs and lowering electricity rates.
