Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman gets a first trailer

A KKK march and rally in Maryland 1998

Shortly after the film's debut screening at the Cannes Film Festival, the first trailer for Spike Lee's next joint has arrived.

In the film, Lee tackles the Ku Klux Klan, but he's doing so by telling a very unconventional true story, and one apparently aided by the kind of dark humor not often seen in such features. Despite the subject matter, though, BlacKkKlansman looks super fun (check out Kylo Ren as a white nationalist and the way Denzel's son, John David Washington, says "white") and Lee's most commercial movie in years.

For the mission to be succeed, they must go undetected under the careful watch of Grand Wizard David Duke (Topher Grace), who is attempting to tone down the KKK's violent image and appeal to mainstream audiences. With the undercover investigation growing ever more complex, Stallworth's colleague, Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver), poses as Ron in face-to-face meetings with members of hate group, gaining insider's knowledge of a deadly plot. Sean McKittrick, Shaun Redick and Raymond Mansfield of QC Entertainment and Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions will also produce.

For those who have missed the hype surrounding the Jordan Peele produced film, BlacKkKlansman follows the real-life story of Ron Stallworth (John David Washington), a black police officer who uses his best white guy voice and an assist from Adam Driver to infiltrate the KKK.
