The Newest: Michigan State 'actually sorry' about Nassar

Hundreds of women sexually abused by disgraced gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar have tentatively agreed to a $500 million (£370.4 million) settlement with Michigan State University, Nassar's former employer, attorneys for both sides said on Wednesday.

Many victims testified that Nassar, 54, sexually abused them under the guise of medical treatment while on his examination table, sometimes hiding it from view of parents waiting nearby.

The settlement does not apply to other organisations still facing lawsuits over Nassar's abuse, including the United States Olympic Committee, USA Gymnastics and famed former Olympic coaches Bela and Martha Karolyi. Many of them gave emotional testimony during Nassar's sentencing hearings.

TI's lawyer says rapper was wrongfully arrested outside his gated community
Sadow says T.I. contacted his wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle , who confirmed her husband should be allowed inside the community. The friend, who had a warrant out for his arrest from Clayton County, was arrested on that warrant.

"The historic settlement came about through the bravery of more than 300 women and girls who had the courage to stand up and refuse to be silenced", John Manly, one of the lawyers representing the victims, said in a statement as reported by the Post. The first Nassar lawsuits were filed in fall 2016, shortly after Nassar was sacked from MSU. Yet state lawmakers have expressed concerns over allowing the university to use state aid. "Those who spoke at the many days of sentencing remain in my thoughts every day, and their strength is an inspiration to us all", said Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette. The university faces claims from at least 300 victims.

"We recognise the need for change on our campus and in our community around sexual assault awareness and prevention" he continued.

University officials maintain they were ignorant of Nassar's abusive behavior until media outlets began running victims' stories in 2016.

Brian Breslin, chair of MSU Board of Trustees, said the settlement was a positive step in moving forward. Denhollander reacted to the settlement with a statement on her Facebook page.

Nassar graduated from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1993 before he became a physician at the school. "It was always about shifting culture from enabling abuse to empowering survivors", she said.

The deal was announced Wednesday by Michigan State and lawyers for 332 victims. He was sentenced to 175 years in prison in January for those crimes after having already been sentenced to 60 years behind bars over federal child pornography charges. The doctor continued to treat athletes on campus for 16 months while university police conducted a criminal investigation that ended with the local prosecutor declining to bring charges. Those who have come forward include Olympians Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney, and Gabby Douglas.
