Windrush scandal: United Kingdom admits 63 people could have been wrongfully deported

Anthony Bryan, who spent time in detention facing removal from the country, said that he did not think that his case would have been dealt with in the same manner had he come from a non-Caribbean country instead of Jamaica.

Two victims of the Windrush scandal have told MPs they believed they would not have faced deportation were it not for their race.

The two grandparents told the human rights committee the documents they had were not acceptable to the Home Office. The Labour MP added that the committee wanted to be sure about what went wrong so they could be sure it did not happen again.

Lady Lawrence, who emigrated to the United Kingdom from Jamaica at the age of nine, then asked whether they saw race as being a big part of the problem, to which all of them agreed, and Bryan said: "In the Home Office, yes". He said he was left "broken" by his treatment. I thought they were sending me to die.

Coli update: You can now safely eat romaine again
Health officials say there is a lag time of two to three weeks between when someone falls ill and when it's reported to the CDC. It's the worst outbreak of E. coli since 2006 when illnesses traced to spinach killed three and sickened more than 270.

Mr Bryan recalls phoning his family from the detention centre to tell them: "It looks like you're going to see me in Jamaica". I couldn't fight no more.

"I give thanks for having a daughter like the one I've got. I was upset. It was very hard".

Mr Bryan was released from the immigration centre in November past year after a last-minute intervention from a lawyer.

Ms Wilson, 61, from Wolverhampton, gave evidence to the MPs and peers on the committee alongside her daughter, Natalie Barnes. In October a year ago she was detained and taken to the Yarl's Wood immigration removal centre in Bedfordshire, where she spent a week before being released. Six weeks before, I had buried my son, and all of a sudden I was in this lock-up even though I hadn't done anything. "If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here".

Ronda Rousey wants a baby 'soon'
"Rowdy" Ronda replied to the question and said that she would like to have a child "someday soon", but that she didn't know yet. As you'll see in the video, James' took the brunt of Ronda's offense at the close of the contest.

Mr Bryan and Ms Wilson said it was hard to get hold of documents that proved they had been in the United Kingdom since the 1960s, even though they told officials they had evidence, including National Insurance numbers, which would indicate their long-term residence.

Diane Abbott, the shadow home secretary, said she was "glad we've got this figure".

Sixty-three members of the Windrush generation could have been wrongly deported or removed from Britain, Home Secretary Sajid Javid has disclosed.

Only last week immigration minister Caroline Nokes said she was still not aware of a single wrongful deportation of a Windrush citizen, despite Home Office chiefs admitting they knew of such cases.
