Dem leaders condemn Trump after reversal on G-7 communique endorsement

Donald Trump took to Twitter after the G7 summit accusing Justin Trudeau of dishonesty

Lashing out at the longtime USA ally and northern neighbor, President Donald Trump tweeted that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is "dishonest & weak" and that the US was pulling back its endorsement of the G-7 summit's communique in part because of what he called Trudeau's "false statements" at a news conference.

However, the US president said that after his departure to Singapore the prime minister said that "US Tariffs were kind of insulting" and he "will not be pushed around".

In a second tweet, Trump said that Trudeau acted "meek and mild" during the G7 summit and that the USA tariffs were in response to Canada's 270% tariff on dairy products.

Trudeau said Saturday during a news conference that Canada will "move forward with retaliatory measures" on July 1 in response to the Trump administration's decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called United States metal tariffs "insulting" and announced retaliatory measures.

He told the G7 leaders during the summit that the U.S. wanted a quick end to trade practices that he said have led to an exodus of American companies and jobs to other countries.

After departing from the Quebec summit for Singapore, Mr Trump tweeted that he had asked American representatives not to endorse the joint communique put out by the G7 leaders, which called for a "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade" and the importance of fighting protectionism. "You want a tariff-free - you want no barriers, and you want no subsidies", he said. He reiterated that the recently imposed U.S. tariffs on metal imports from Canada and other nations are a response to what he believes is trade inequality. "I think it would be an asset to have Russian Federation back in".

I don't know where to go with this dog bites man metaphor but boy isn't this a insane world we live in! In that black-and-white photo, posted by US Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, Mr Trump appears to talk confidently as other leaders listen.

"State of the Union" host Jake Tapper asked Kudlow what right Trump and other USA officials had to be offended by Trudeau's comments, given the dispute.

"It's a little worse within North America - the underlying bargain was that United States neighbors would receive special treatment", Alden said in the same press call.

Trudeau says five of the G7 countries agreed to a plastics charter to further protect the environment and oceans.

He said Trump "did the courtesy to Justin Trudeau to travel up to Quebec for that summit".

"President Trump and I had a brief word here at the summit about how he is looking forward to his visit to the United Kingdom and I look forward to welcoming him to the United Kingdom".

"It's going to change", he said.

Leaders from Canada and the United Kingdom rejected Trump's call to bring Russia back, saying Russian President Vladimir Putin would have to make major changes to be welcomed back.

Trump throws G7 into disarray with tweets after he leaves
The group of seven nations that make up the G7 are Canada, France, the United States , the UK, Germany, Japan and Italy. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vowed afterwards to press ahead with retaliatory tariffs on 1 July.

"Americans stand with you, even if our president doesn't", he concluded.
