Ferry Sunk For Delaware Artificial Reef

The MV Twin Capes became part of an artificial reef

The weight of the vessel is about 2,100 ton M/V Twin Capes, and it was sunk on Friday at the Del-Jersey-Land Inshore Artificial Reef.

Twin Capes, one of the original three Cape May-Lewes vessels in the 1970s, was declared surplus in 2010 and was last used for vehicle and passenger service in 2013. The vessel's sinking was carried out by Norfolk, Virginia-based marine contractor Coleen Marine, which bought the ferry from the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) previous year for the objective of reefing. It was then upgraded in the 1990s, gaining a variety of new features, including several lounges, a pilot house, "shark-fin" smokestacks, and decks.
