Ivanka Trump's 'Chinese proverb' tweet mystifies China

Although Ivanka Trump did not accompany her father to Singapore for his summit with Kim Jong Un, she took to social media in an apparent show of support, tweeting what she described as a Chinese proverb: "Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those doing it".

Weibo users who agreed it wasn't a Chinese proverb tried to guess what saying she may have been trying to reference.

In 2015, the Quote Investigator found that the saying also was published in a 1962 periodical with the words "Confucius say" - a popular format for jokes about proverbs not actually attributable to the Chinese philosopher, according to The Hill.

However, it was not long before she was mocked by social media users as no such Chinese proverb reportedly exists.

In China, as Trump's tweet was shared and reposted, many natives were baffled, calling the workforce development aid out for her "fake proverb".

This Is Huge: Huawei Working on 6.9-inch Phone
Based on existing reports, the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are believed to be announced by the end of October this year. If the Mate 20 Pro gets a 6.9-inch screen that would make it about the size of a small tablet.

They also offered some snarky commentary, including one person who said, "Don't mistake something as a Chinese proverb simply because it's written in Chinese characters".

Ivanka Trump meets with South Korean president Moon Jae-In.

Many pointed towards a classic Chinese idiom: "A true gentleman should keep silent while watching a chess game".

'She saw it in a fortune cookie at Panda Express, ' one user wrote.

However, despite Ivanka's attribution, there is no evidence that this quote comes from China and it doesn't match any Chinese proverb that we know of.

NASA’s Opportunity rover halted over Martian dust storm
Normally, these storms, which can grow to become planet-encircling, start out locally and pass the valley before growing. NASA launched the twin rovers Opportunity and Spirit in 2003 to study Martian rocks and soil.

But it was reportedly panned on China's social network, Weibo, and may have actually been an early 20th-century saying.

'Our editor really can't think of exactly which proverb this is. She hired a Chinese-speaking nanny to tutor her daughter, Arabella.

"If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts", she wrote, attributing the quote to Einstein, before quickly being informed by other Twitter users that this was not an Einstein quote. She is, after all, a top White House adviser, whose job, as is clear by the title, to advise the president of the United States on important matters.

On Tuesday, after Trump and Kim met at the hotel in Singapore and shook hands before sitting down for a one-on-one meeting, Ivanka tweeted a simple collage of the iconic handshake between the two leaders.
