Trump, Kim set to make history

Trump is right to lower expectations for Singapore summit

The US will offer North Korea "unique" security assurances in return for denuclearisation, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said.

The president arrived in Asia having blown up relations with US allies - and personally with French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau - over trade and Russian Federation, announcing via Twitter en route to Singapore that he'd withdraw from a joint agreement covering climate change and other issues.

"This aligned him with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's position on a feasible timeline for denuclearization", Patrick McEachern, a former foreign service officer in South Korea and a North Korea analyst, told Newsweek.

Trump and members of his team have also said that the USA would be willing to guarantee Kim's safety and position in power if the country was willing to give up its nuclear weapons.

Back in North Korea, the running bodyguards always accompany any state vehicle Kim is travelling on and the same was evident during the inter-Korean summit.

Less than two days before his tête-a-tête with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the president who initially welcomed the idea that his efforts might net him a Nobel Prize was downplaying the possibility that Tuesday's meeting would lead to any major breakthroughs.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un arrived in Singapore on Sunday ahead of their Tuesday meeting.

Pompeo spoke as top officials from the two countries continued negotiations in Singapore ahead of the meeting between Trump and Kim.

Authorities imposed tight security around the summit venue and related luxury hotels - including installing extra pot plants outside Kim's expected accommodation to obstruct reporters' views. In my meetings with North Korea's foreign ministry, its officials have repeatedly emphasized that only a leader-to-leader dialogue could break the nuclear impasse.

Kim is now scheduled to leave Singapore around 2pm on Tuesday with Trump departing on Wednesday morning.

Even after touching down in Singapore, it was clear that the trade disputes with United States allies in Quebec continued to rankle Trump.

The official said Trump and Kim would hold a one-on-one meeting on Tuesday that could last up to two hours.

(US-NK summit) Expectations running high for successful outcomes
But last month, Trump abruptly cancelled the Singapore summit, citing the "tremendous anger and open hostility" by Pyongyang. North Korea's Kim landed Singapore's Changi Airport earlier on Sunday, in his longest trip overseas as head of state.

Pompeo, who was in Singapore, did not go into specific details about how the USA would secure the country, but he said talks between the US and North Korea are moving briskly.

The key players have arrived, with North Korea's Kim Jong-un touching down Sunday after his longest plane journey since taking power. Kim has led the USA team at the demilitarized zone working on a joint communique with North Korea.

"I think we're going to have a relationship, and it will start on June 12", Trump said at the time.

"He should disembark from Air Force One, head straight away into the meeting with no photos or handshakes allowed, sit across from Kim and ask one simple question: Are you ready to give up your nuclear weapons in a meaningful, timely and verifiable way?"

It's a reflection of the intense global curiosity over Kim's sudden turn to diplomacy in recent months after a slew of North Korean nuclear and missile tests a year ago raised serious fears of war.

South Korea estimates the North has 50 kilograms of plutonium, reportedly enough for around 10 bombs, and a "considerable" ability to produce uranium weapons. "And if we're not willing to do that, we're not going to get a good deal", Graham said, complementing the worldwide community - including China and Russian Federation - for standing behind Trump in regards to sanctions on North Korea. Lee has said the summit would cost Singapore about 20 million Singapore dollars ($15 million), more than half of which would go on security.

Toure made his final appearance for City in a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in May. "We won one Premier League [title]". Guardiola has since come out to hit back at Toure's claims.

"It's never been done before", Trump said of a U.S.
